Shanghai is striving its best to be the world’s leading air cargo hub, the Shanghai Municipal Government said. It aims to achieve annual cargo throughput of 4.1 million tonnes by 2025.

Meanwhile, another active hub for e-commerce cargo Zhengzhou Airport aims to achieve 1 million tonnes of cargo throughput by 2035, supported by the completion of phase III of the airport, north cargo area and the third runway construction, as well as the start of south cargo area and fourth runway construction.

Shanghai will strengthen the connection of global cargo hubs by expanding the network of domestic and international cargo flights, increasing the utilization rate of belly space in international flights, encouraging airlines to attract cargo in transits, introducing value-added services including modern logistics, smart warehouses, cold chain processing and financial services, as well as promoting the use of electronic airway bills and the integration of information.

Construction work for expansion of Shanghai Pudong International Airport and the use of fifth runway will be launched by 2025. Green and smart elements will be included to strengthen the safety management and reduce pollution.
